January 2009

Today, Saturday January 10, is the last paper-printed edition of the Kansas City Kansan newspaper.  The Wyandotte County staple has been a great resource for generations, providing community news, obituaries, calendar of events and listings.  Although current “issues” will only be available on-line at their new, updated website, the archives here at the Wy Co museum has past editions on both microfilm and bound copies.  If you are researching family, events, businesses, etc these past editions are an invaluable resource to help you navigate through the history of Wyandotte County.

The resources in the archives are available free of charge, there is just a minimal copy/paper fee.

January 12-February 28, 2009
Exhibition; Quindaro Ruins from A to Z.
The Wyandotte County Museum will be exhibiting artifacts, on loan from the Kansas State Historical Society, from the Quindaro ruins. All artifacts were excavated from the archaeological site of the old town of Quindaro. In addition, to help celebrate the 150th anniversary of Wyandotte County, we will have on display a high quality reproduction of the State of Kansas Constitution from the Wyandotte Constitutional Convention of 1859. This reproduction was recently acquired from the Kansas State Historical Society. For more information regarding the exhibition, contact Jennifer Laughlin, curator at jlaughlin@wycokck.org

headerWe are setting up a new blog for the Wyandotte County Museum to showcase events, collections, exhibitions, archives and indexes for the public. Doing so will make our resources more available to the community!  Please visit back shortly for updated images, posts, and schedules.
